Nurse Practitioners

CAROLE DILLON

Advance Nurse Practitioner

Carole works closely with our GP team seeing and treating patients in a very similar way to a GP: she can examine you and prescribe medication. Carole also provides community house calls and works closely with our patients and carers in the Nursing and Care homes. Carole has a wealth of experience in the local health community and qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1984. Since then she has gained a BSc with Honours in Nurse Practitioner in 2014 at UCLAN and is an Independent Nurse Prescriber. Carole has also completed an Advanced Certificate in Respiratory Care and Management in 2010.

Nurses

The practice nursing team work in close liaison with the doctors. They conduct their own surgeries and can carry out routine blood tests, holiday vaccinations and other immunisations, ECGs, blood pressure checks, cervical smear tests, chronic disease clinics and Healthy Heart Checks. They will also offer help and advice on diet, exercise, healthy living, family planning etc. Appointments with the nursing team are made via online services

GP Assistants conduct their own surgeries and can carry out routine blood tests, holiday vaccinations and other immunisations, ECGs and INR clinics, blood pressure checks. They will also offer help and advice on diet, exercise, healthy living, family planning etc. Appointments with the nursing team are made via online services.

SARA HEYWOOD

Practice Business Manager

Sara runs the surgery in conjunction with the GP Partners on a day to day basis. She has worked within NHS Primary Care and managing clinical research for 28 years in a range of roles and this experience helps provide high quality patient care, human resources, patient safety, premises, equipment and information technology. Sara is supported in her role by a Deputy Manager, Duty Manager, Reception Manager and full Reception, Administration, Data Quality, Medicines Management and Secretarial team. Sara inputs into the smooth running of the clinical team and the training of medical students and GPs. She also assists with Data Protection Regulation, Information Governance, Health and Safety and Infection Control, is currently the non-clinical Deputy Safeguarding Lead and Training Lead Manager.

SHARON BYRNE

Deputy Manager

Sharon assists Sara with the smooth running of the Practice and deputises as Practice Manager in her absence. She co-ordinates the practice clinics and HR aspects of the practice. Sharon is also the Complaints and Significant Events Manager and Suggestions Manager

AMIE SUTTON

Duty Manager

Amie assists in the day to day operation of the practice and assists with training staff within the Administration team and is happy to help with all manner of patient and administrative enquires and is the Duty Complaints, Significant Events and Suggestions Manager. Amie assists with Data Protection Regulation, Information Governance, Health and Safety. Amie also maintains practice policies, trains staff within the administration team and helps to run practice team meetings and the virtual Patient Reference Group.

Administration

The administrative, medicines management and secretarial team deal with a wide range of administrative processes within the surgery including patient referrals to hospitals and NHS related services, private insurance company and solicitor requests for information and medicine management query and audit information.

Reception

The receptionists are fully trained in all aspects of reception, care navigation and customer service. Please remember that if you are kept waiting or are asked the reason for your appointment this is due to our policy aimed towards the smooth and safe running of the practice. We need to ascertain the urgency of some requests and sometimes have to spend longer with a patient than was first anticipated. Please be patient as they have a very difficult job to do.

Isabelle works alongside the clinical team carrying out a range of reviews including chronic disease, asthma and medication.

Treatment Room Nurses

St Marys Health Centre, Cop Lane, Penwortham. The team can be contacted by telephone 01772 644151.The Treatment room provides dressings, blood tests, ear syringing clinic and treatment room service and stitch removal for procedures done at hospitals and external clinics. Please note this service if funded by Lancashire Foundation Trust and on occasion they will offer appointments within their range of Treatment Rooms within the area rather than at St Marys.

Midwives

Podiatrist

The team can be contacted on 01772 644151. A podiatry service is provided to anyone who is registered with the service.

Public Health Nursing Team

The Public Health Nursing Service (including Breastfeeding Support) is provided by Virgin Care. The team can be contacted by telephone 0300 247 0040. they run a drop in clinic every Wednesday for Well Babies from 11.30am to 1.00pm at Longton health Centre for weighing and general advice - CURRENTLY SUSPENDED DUE TO COVID19.

Community Occupational Therapists

The community occupational therapists are not based at Longton Health Centre but may be contacted directly by telephoning them on 01772 644400.
